The very definition of a volunteer truly encompasses the exceptional group of individuals that dedicate countless hours of service to Central Montana Medical Center.
Whether serving on CMMC’s Governing Board, Auxiliary, Skilled Nursing Center Activities Volunteers, Hospice Volunteers, Summer Youth Program, Chaplain Services, Home Care Services, or the Medical Center Foundation Advisory Board, their collective time, wisdom, talent and compassion are a vital component in the success of CMMC. Over 250 volunteers dedicate their time to compassionately convey our mission, vision and values and we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude!
CMMC Auxiliary
The Central Montana Medical Center (CMMC) Auxiliary has been a vital part of our hospital community since its founding in 1961. Originally established under the direction of the Mother Superior at St. Joseph Hospital, the Auxiliary began with just 18 members. Their early efforts focused on providing comfort to patients through simple, heartfelt gestures—like offering coffee and cookies and mending lap robes and linens.
After CMMC moved to its current location, the Auxiliary’s role evolved. While direct patient interaction became less frequent, their commitment to supporting the hospital remained strong. Today, the Auxiliary focuses on fundraising and service projects that directly benefit patients, staff, and the broader healthcare mission.
The Auxiliary currently includes 60 members, with 18 lifetime members who have made significant contributions over the years. While some lifetime members are no longer active, many continue to support the Auxiliary’s mission in meaningful ways.
How the Auxiliary Gives Back
Fundraising & Support
The Auxiliary raises funds through a variety of events and initiatives, including:
- Gift Shop sales
- Bake sales
- Bazaars
- Silent auctions
- Rummage sales
These efforts help fund essential items and services that enhance patient care and staff support.
Handmade Contributions
Auxiliary members also create and donate a variety of handmade items, such as:
- Baby caps and blankets for newborns
- Chemotherapy comfort bags with items like lip balm, lozenges, notepads, and pens
- Welcome bags for new employees, including a Gift Shop certificate
- Lap robes for veterans
Annual Giving & Scholarships
Each year, hospital departments submit wish lists for items that directly support patient care. The Auxiliary allocates funds to fulfill as many of these requests as possible. In partnership with the Central Montana Foundation and the Central Montana Medical Foundation, the Auxiliary also awards scholarships to students pursuing careers in healthcare.
