SWING BED AT CENTRAL MONTANA MEDICAL CENTER

Not every patient is ready to go home from the hospital right away. If you are recovering from an illness or medical treatment, Central Montana Medical Center’s Medicare-certified Swing Bed Program offers the continued care you will need to support a smooth transition from your time in the hospital to the next stage of your recovery.

OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Swing Bed?

As a critical access hospital, CMMC’s Swing Bed is a Medicare-certified program that can be used as an acute care bed and/or a skilled care bed. The actual bed/room does not change; the level of care the patient receives changes.

Who Qualifies for Swing Bed?

A person who has been admitted under inpatient status for at least three days in row and requires additional daily nursing care and/or rehab services would benefit from a Swing Bed stay. A skilled need might include:

  • Daily Physical, Occupational, and/or Speech therapy with reachable goals for improvement
  • Intravenous (IV) medications given at least once a day
  • Daily specialized wound care

Who pays for Swing Bed?

Medicare will generally pay for Swing Bed if the patient meets the following criteria:

  • The Swing Bed stay must be related to an acute hospital stay
  • A qualifying 3-night inpatient stay within the past 30 days

Though Swing Bed is a Medicare driven program, many private health insurance providers also pay for Swing Bed- pending prior authorization

Self-pay is also an option

Should you be hospitalized outside of Lewistown, we will work with your treatment team to transfer your care to the Swing Bed program here at CMMC.

Why choose CMMC for my Swing Bed stay?

  • Low patient-to-nurse ratio
  • On-site hospital resources including radiology, lab, and ER if needed
  • Daily Interdisciplinary Rounding
  • Weekly Interdisciplinary Care Planning
  • Individualized caregiver training and education when preparing for discharge
